Frequently Asked Questions

What does Orphan Paws Project do with my adoption fee?

  • Before they go home with their adopters, all of our cats/kittens are:

    • Spayed/neutered

    • Microchipped

    • Tested for FeLV and FIV

    • Vaccinated (with age appropriate vaccines)

    • Dewormed (often multiple times according to protocol)

    • Current on flea treatment

  • As you might imagine, these medical services are not free! The adoption fee goes towards reimbursing our rescue for the funds we have spend to get each of our cats and kittens this basic veterinary care. Any funds that are leftover from the fee are used to cover the essential costs of:

    • Spay/neuter of feral cats (we don't get adoption fees for them to reimburse medical costs)

    • Food

    • Litter (different ages of cats need different kinds)

    • Medications for cats/kittens with various health issues

    • Veterinary bills for cats/kittens with various health issues

    • Much more

  • Other items that we consistently have to purchase are:

    • Toys (bored kittens are naughty kittens!)

    • Gloves

    • Oral syringes

    • Kitten milk

    • Kitten tube feeding supplies

    • Kitten bottle feeding supplies

    • Blankets

    • Beds

    • Paper towels

    • Disinfectants

    • Litter boxes

    • Gas to drive to our TNR sites (often over 30 minutes away) and to the veterinary clinic we use for spay/neuter (~1 hour away)

    • Feral cat humane traps

    • Dog kennels for feral cats to recover in after surgery

    • Scratchers (very important for cat/kitten stress relief)

    • Much more

  • As you can see, animal rescue is not a profitable field. The adoption fees are so important for us to continue helping cats and kittens, especially since we pay for TNR without reimbursement. THANK YOU for supporting us--we couldn't do this without you!
